Meet Husband

Today it my pleasure to introduce you to Timm, or as he is referred to in my personal contacts list, Husband.  He is the other part of me, my best friend, my one true love.  We’ve known each other for over thirteen years, ten of those as husband and wife, and I’d like to share a little bit about him with you today.

Timm is a lot of things {intelligent, funny, affectionate, well-versed in pop-culture references, able to strongly defend positions he cares little to nothing about just for the sake of a good argument}, but one of his most striking characteristics is his ability to identify and care for the needs of others.  That, and his incredible ability to grow and display facial hair in a number of differing configurations as seen below…

The Lumberjack Beard {which is the end result of the yearly Advent Beard}.

The Everyday Full Beard.

The Moustache {Gross.  Creepy.  He thinks it’s funny.  I can’t look at him.}

The Chin-Only Gotee {does this have an official name?}.

The Full Gotee with Surrounding Scruff.

Sweet Clean Face.

I told you.  He’s got mad facial hair skills.  Our kids never know what Daddy’s face will look like.

But, I digress.

To fully know Timm is to experience the sacred and the irreverent at the same time.  His passions run deep, and his sense of humor is edgy, raw, and original.  His heart connects with strangers in meaningful ways and allows them to quickly find in him a familiar and meaningful place of comfort.  He loves his friends well, supporting and rejoicing with them in times of joy, or weeping and hurting with them in times of sorrow.  He will go to great lengths to support and defend those he loves.  He will also wear this to drop his daughter off at Kindergarten, just to make people wonder:

{No, we are not catholic.  Yes, he is an ordained minster.  No, he is not in vocational ministry.  Yes, he is available for weddings and funerals.}

He sees themes of salvation woven between the lines of shows like The Sopranos.  He recognizes the beauty of God’s creation in a well-crafted beer.  He appreciates the simple beauty of a clean floor.  He values thoughtfulness, honesty, diligence, and hard work.  He is a writer, a runner, a counselor.  He enjoys watching film and live music.  He loves to laugh.  He loves sports.  He loves Jesus most of all.

At the center of it all, Timm is driven by a desire to serve and love others well.  He finds joy in caring for and giving to those in need, both for people he knows and for strangers alike.  Over the past few years Timm has developed a heart for the people of Sudan, Africa, and leaves today to teach and minster to his international brothers and sisters in Christ.  To find out more about his mission and purpose in going, you may click {here}.  For those of you who made this trip possible through your financial contributions, thank you.  As of this past Tuesday he has raised 100% of his necessary funds!

You may have noticed the countdown on the right-hand side of your screen.  This is how many days left until he returns home.  Will you pray for him, for us, for me?

To experience the genius of Timm’s sense of humor and to enjoy his minute-by-minute take on the world around him, follow him on Twitter @timmsass34.  You won’t be disappointed.

Husband, I love you.  Come home to me quickly.  Love, Wife.

    Love this post and we’ll be praying for Timm while he’s away. And of course, prayers to you and your sweet kiddos too! By the way, I think Timm totally looks like Jason Segal from “How I Met Your Mother” :)

    Oh honey, I am so proud of you both. You describe him so well. He is all of the ‘ above” and he found YOU…THE BEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO HIM. He has excellent taste! He looks at the heart of others and extends grace! I love him too! I feel so privileged to be considered part of his ‘ family”. Zsa Zsa

  25. Sandra Sasser says:

    AMEN…I, too, go for the full goatee with surrounding scruff. He, like his father, has that ability to change on a weekly basis…our kids never knew what he would be…What a GREAT tribute to him and to your marriage…thank you!

  26. Andrea Johnson says:

    That’s so funny! I started putting my facial hair vote in, and then deleted it. But I’d say full gotee w/surrounding scruff too! To me, that’s classic Timm!

  27. Sarah Wolfe says:

    Okay, all the facial hair is hilarious. I prefer the full gotee with the surrounding scruff, just in case he was wondering. You all need to come over while he is gone, just to break it up a little :)

      I’ll pass your facial hair vote along to Mr. Sasser. And your offer is appreciated and accepted!

  28. Andrea Johnson says:

    Maybe your finest writing to date. What a pleasure to read. Accurate and lovely. I will certainly be praying for Timm and his mission, and for you and the kids.

    SO sweet, Katherine. What a great tribute to the man you love! You and Timm have a Godly, loving marriage that Brandon and I both look up to. I am so happy that I can call you my Uncle and Aunt, but most importantly, friends. {And hopefully those 11 days will be great for him, but will go by quickly for you! :) }
