Get Dressed First 06.10.23

June 10, 2023 · In: Fashion, Lovely Living

I love getting dressed, but more importantly, I love how I feel when I get dressed, even on days when I don’t technically need to be dressed for anything in particular. Getting dressed is almost like a mental health practice for me, and it infuses me with a sense of self-respect and overall well-being. I never regret the tiny bit of effort it takes to get dressed, and “get dressed first” has become one of my mantras.

Since I love getting dressed, and since I am committed to sharing my real life with you here, I thought it might be fun to do a weekly post showing you what I wore each day. These posts will be an exercise in consistency for me, and maybe a point of inspiration or commiseration for you.

The internet distorts reality, and suddenly we begin to think everyone is perfect, curated, styled up all of the time. I assure you this is false. Some days I like putting thought into an outfit, and other days (lots of days, actually) I am wearing the same pair of jeans with the same shirt and the same sneakers…over and over and over.

Both sides of the spectrum are part of what it looks like to live a balanced life, and I am nothing if not a fan of all things in balance.

Here is a look at what I wore over the last week…

SATURDAY

Saturday was particularly full, which is not usually the case for me on the weekend. Cheer camp performance. Baby shower. Graduation party. Dinner out as a family before Jake left for camp. This outfit carried me through all of the events.

SUNDAY

I spent most of the day lounging around…

jeans // shirt // exact sweater which has limited sizes left, so here is another cute option

…and then got dressed for church (our church meets in the afternoon). This combo made me happy, despite needing to iron the leg of my jeans. Oh well.

MONDAY

Mondays are big work days for me at Hurley House, and I try to keep my outfit comfortable and low-key.

TUESDAY

Tuesday was full of creative work like writing, editing, planning, and these pants and t-shirt felt cute and comfy.

WEDNESDAY

A scarf I had been eyeing for weeks at J.Crew finally went on sale, and when it arrived on Tuesday, I knew I had to wear it Wednesday. I also had to crimp my hair for reasons that I cannot explain.

THURSDAY

My first white-on-white outfit of the season makes it feel like it is officially summer.

jeans // similar top // shoes + similar lower heel option // similar belt // similar earrings

FRIDAY

Friday is my favorite day at work…it always feels like a party! I decided to pull this navy slip skirt out of the depths of my closet and dress her way down with a cute white t-shirt, white sneakers, and my Mother’s Day necklace.
