Get Dressed First 06.24.23

June 24, 2023 · In: Fashion, Lovely Living

Last week, on a bit of a whim, we decided to take a family road trip to Michigan next week, which means this week was consumed by getting ready to leave town. Tasks like finding boarding for the dog, packing, tying up loose ends at work, and thinking through all the details that come with traveling consumed my week. It was also so hot I felt like I was losing my mind, and it’s this point every year where I wonder if it will be cool (or even temperate) in Fort Worth ever again, and it all feels very dramatic. Summer is my nemesis.

Here is what I wore this week…

SATURDAY

I hung out in my walking clothes all day, running errands and doing laundry. Super exciting stuff. I do love this new lightweight jacket I recently found at Old Navy. I ordered it for one of my girls, but she ended up not liking it, so I kept it, and it is really fantastic.

SUNDAY

For church I threw one of my favorite dresses, added a pink cardigan, and then went all in on the pink with a crocheted tote from Target and a pale pink scarf from Madewell.

MONDAY

I literally cannot get enough of these oversized, wide-leg cream jeans. I think I would wear them every day if that weren’t obnoxious. They are supposed to be cropped, but I bought the tall length which makes them full-length on my, and I love them!

TUESDAY

These white jeans are not as comfortable as the ones I wore yesterday, but I do like the shorter length and the fringed hem. I paired them with a classic navy tee and some very old gingham bow slides from Old Navy.

WEDNESDAY

If you live in Texas, then you know we are in the middle of a horrific heat wave, and on Wednesday, the weather really started to mess with my head. It feels impossible to find any relief from the heavy, hot air, and even at home I feel warm. It’s hard to get dressed when it feels like a hair dryer outside, but I reminded myself that it’s a good practice, even when it feels challenging. (My shoes and shirt are several years old, and I cannot find similar links.)

THURSDAY

I found a storage bin of summer clothes that I forgot to unpack when I switched out my closet, and I was so excited to rediscover this jumpsuit! It’s kind of quirky, but in a cute way. I sized up for a roomy fit.

FRIDAY

On Friday, I spent the day at work, then came home to pack and check everything off of my list for our trip. We are leaving very early Saturday morning, and I am so excited to head north away from this heat! This cute, lightweight tennis skirt and monogrammed shirt was a great Friday outfit, and the mesh fabric of the skirt feels feathery and cool. I have this skirt in a couple of different colors, and it is so easy to wear. There are undershorts attached, which I appreciate.
