Get Dressed First 07.29.23

July 29, 2023 · In: Fashion, Lovely Living

Did we have a good week? I hope so.

I went to see the Barbie movie on Sunday (loved it so much), cooked my favorite summer time meal of all time (Homemade Ricotta and Blistered Tomatoes), and realized I regret not making a motivational sticker chart for myself this summer to hang on the fridge to provide positive reinforcement for every time I decide to take a walk in the heat. That is a fancy way of saying I have not been walking, but need to, but also hate to sweat…the struggle is real.

Here is what I wore this week!

SATURDAY

I started the weekend with a real bang. No makeup. No shoes. Just resting. Saturdays are my favorite day to recover from the week, and unless I have somewhere to go, I usually wear whatever sounds comfy and easy.

SUNDAY

Pink ruffles for Barbie! This skirt is very old, and every time I wear it I am reminded why quality pieces that fit well and align with my personal sense of style will always contribute to a happy closet.

MONDAY

It is no exaggeration to say I woke up every day this week and did not want to get dressed. But I did, and each day it helped me mentally. These pants from Target continue to be a great choice on days when I just don’t know what to wear.

TUESDAY

I reached way in the back of my closet and pulled out this floral shirt to see if I still liked it. I do. I found it several years ago, and it is cropped in the front and longer in the back. The breezy cut is perfect for hot summer days.

WEDNESDAY

I’m calling this look my Official Summer Uniform of 2023. I could wear these Madewell jeans and Katie Kime oxford shirt every dang day. If I didn’t publish my outfits on the internet, I might wear this exact outfit three days a week. These jeans are sold as a cropped length, but I purchased them in the tall size so they would be full length on me.

THURSDAY

Sometimes when I don’t know what to wear, I choose one item and build around it. These shoes were my item. I purchased them several years ago, and they are cute and comfortable, but I forget to wear them, so I added a pair of wide leg linen pants, a classic white shirt, and a scarf tied at my waist for flair. (I shared how to style a scarf here.)

FRIDAY

THIS TOP!!!! I wore this silky boat-neck top for the first time, and it is spectacular. I love the silhouette, and there is an elastic band at the waist which creates a tucked-in, blousey look. This creamy color is beautiful, but it also comes in several other gorgeous hues, and I am thinking about getting the deep blue or the raspberry. Or both?

Initially, I thought this dress was in the no pile, but after a comment from a reader, I am reconsidering. Pink + orange + puff sleeves...maybe it's a keeper after all!
