After the start of school, Labor Day weekend always arrives just at the perfect time. The back-to-school buzz is fading, and everyone really benefits from a long weekend of doing nothing. Labor Day always feels like the gift I didn’t realize I needed, and this year was no exception. The highlight of my week included catching up on rest, cooking a freezer full of meals for my son, and discovering my new favorite jeans!
Here is what I wore this week…
SATURDAY
On Saturday, after going to bed Friday night at 8:30, I slept in, woke up, and then took a morning nap. I’m not sure where the massive need for sleep was coming from, but I spent most of Saturday resting. I heard someone recently say, “You can trust your body’s tiredness,” and I wholeheartedly agree. When my body feels tired, I trust it and give it the rest it is requesting. (I failed to snap a photo of me in my pajamas, but here is a really cute pair.)
SUNDAY

This jumpsuit keeps being one of the easiest outfits ever. Paired with clogs, a headband, and my friendship bracelets from the Taylor Swift concert (I was feeling nostalgic), it was perfect for casual, afternoon church.

MONDAY

On Labor Day, I hit the ground running and spent almost the entire day in the kitchen cooking a bunch of meals to store in the freezer and transport to my college son. I haven’t cooked like this in a long time, and it was very rewarding to see a stack of meals piled up in the freezer at the end of the day.
TUESDAY

I was recently having a conversation with a friend where we both agreed we were over camo, but my one exception is this jacket I found at a discount store years ago. The best feature, and the reason I keep it in my closet, is the drawstring at the waist. This tiny detail takes what would otherwise be a boxy, bulky layer and turns it into a sharp, stylish, waist-defining piece that I reach for over and over again.

WEDNESDAY

I have been in a bit of a jeans dilemma lately. A lot of my tried-and-true pairs are simply worn out after years of wear, and some of my pairs are not as in style as they were when I first found them. Plus, my body has changed a bit, and given how often I wear jeans, it is a must for me to have a few pairs in my closet that I whole-heartedly love. I went to Madewell on Wednesday and hit the jackpot. I found this pair I am wearing (Curvy 90’s straight) as well as the pair I am wearing down below on Friday, and these are the best jeans I have put on my body in a long time. No gaping at the waist. A full length, straight leg. And a waist that hits nice and high! So so good!

THURSDAY

Thursday evening I was a panel speaker at a small business event. The evening was really fun, and there is nothing I love more than talking about what I do! This dress served me well, and I cannot wait to wear it again.

FRIDAY

Here is the second pair of jeans I found on my Madewell excursion. These are the Curvy Perfect Vintage, and the leg is ever so slightly more tapered than the pair I wore on Wednesday. The waist is equally perfect with no gaping, and I was reminded how a good pair of jeans that fit well can do wonders for my mental well-being. I also want to mention how much I love these cap-toe shoes. The tan and black is a classic color combo, available in flats or heels (this version from J.Crew Factory is so cute), but I particularly like the low block heel and the ankle strap of my pair. Get ready to see this shoe on my a lot this fall…I plan to wear her weekly.
