This past week, in celebration of the end of summer, I surprised my kids and a couple of their friends with an ice cream sundae board. I wish I could take credit for the idea, but our new staff member, Lauren, found the idea on Pinterest. It was too good to pass up!

Building the board was very easy. I went to a grocery store and snagged the ice cream, waffle bowls, Oreos, candy, and syrups. Then I grabbed a chocolate chip cookie, brownie, and rice krispie treat from the Hurley House bakery case. I added some fresh strawberries and a few sprigs of mint to make it look artfully put together.
I used two loaf pans filled with ice to hold the pints of ice cream. All the other ingredients fit nicely into some tiny mason jars. I particularly loved how it did not take much of any one ingredient to yield a board that looked abundant and full.

Once the guests of honor arrived, I let them dive in and help themselves. Their smiles and giggles were the best part. I would highly recommend this idea for your next party or celebration. It was a snap to pull together, looked like way more trouble than it actually was, and felt very special without much fuss.
My favorite combo was the chocolate ice cream with fresh banana slices, a few snicker chunks, and a drizzle of caramel. Yum and yum!
