Is there anything better than the weekend before a holiday week? I love the vast expanse of open days, the absence of anyone needing to wake up early, and the freedom to just walk through the week as we please. Plus, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and I love the days leading up to it. I get to spend lots of time in the kitchen, maybe work on a little project (or not), take the girls to get a haircut and then window shop, work on a puzzle…it’s the best week of the year in my opinion.
This week I wrapped up some major projects. I may or may not have overextended myself in the commitment department, and while every single event was superb and worth my time and life-giving, it was a lot. I was asked to speak to four different groups this month, and when I said yes several weeks ago, I had no idea how difficult life would become in the wake of these commitments. However, I made it happen, and I am so glad I did.
The most memorable event by far was a live stream for the Ronald McDonald House. I taught a cheese board class live on You Tube, thanks to a team of professionals who turned the Hurley House store into a studio. There were three cameras, a ton of lights, and a crew of technicians to make sure everything went according to plan.
I know this sounds bizarre, but there is nowhere I feel more alive and myself then on a stage in front of an audience. I have been this way my whole life, but not in an obnoxious, show-biz, need-to-be-the-center-of-attention kind of way. When I step into the light and look into the camera, part of my being comes alive, and I feel like I am doing what I am created to do. To have the opportunity to do this for an organization whose values of hospitality and service align with mine was such a treat.
We also wrapped up our fall season at Hurley House, and are getting geared up to launch our December Edit when we come back from the Thanksgiving break. We have decided to focus on a few offerings this December (primarily Chicken Enchiladas and Cinnamon Rolls) that will allow us to say yes to as many people as possible. Limiting our choices allows our staff to serve more people, and I cannot wait to see how it goes. The most highly anticipated December product offerings will be the return of our Market Items. If you are a Fort Worth local, get excited for Maple Chipotle Roasted Nuts, Caramel Corn Chex Mix, Truffle Butter Popcorn, Hurley House Hot Cocoa Mix, and Homemade Marshmallows!
Have a lovely weekend!
