Summer Favorites

July 12, 2022 · In: Favorites, Lovely Living

Summer is my fourth favorite season (haha), but lately I have found a collection of items that has made summer seem a bit sweeter. Granted, I may never love triple-digit heat, but I can certainly make a case for how cute the stuff of summer can be, and today I am sharing my favorites with you.

Some of these items are new to me this year. Some of them have been in my rotation for a few years. But all of them come with five star reviews!

BEACH TOWELS.
I bought new beach towels for my family this year for the first time in way too long. I wanted something oversized, soft but not thick, and classic. Lands End delivered, and the cabana stripe beach towel is everything I want!

RING POP POPSICLE MOLDS.
Too cute to pass up, and simple enough for the smallest of hands to help, these Ring Pop popsicle molds are officially my summer crush.

IGLOO PLAYMATE COOLER.
When is the last time you experienced the satisfying sensory experience of pushing the little button and swiveling open your cooler? Igloo has brought back the Playmate, and I love it so much. Besides being the perfect size for holding lunch and a beverage, I think this would make a super cute ice bucket. Can’t you just picture it on the bar cart with the lid open and a scoop nestled in a mountain of ice cubes?

SUN HAT.
I have a hard time with hats. My head is large, and most sun hats don’t fit well. I love the adjustable strap on this wicker sun visor, and as an added bonus it twists up for easy storage when traveling.

NEEDLEPOINT BAG.
I have been stitching my heart out this summer, and I am never without a project at the pool. I love clear bags for stashing canvas and thread, and this one is particularly cute.

SUNSCREEN.
Super Goop has won me over me for life. As someone who can burn in the time it takes to walk to my car in the parking lot, sunscreen is not optional. I love this product and trust it to protect my skin.

MY LIFE IN FRANCE, by Julia Child.
The right book for me at the right time, My Life In France tells the story of Julia Child’s days spent living in France where she fell in love with food and learned to cook. I needed this book this summer. She reminds us that good things take time, quality always matter, and it is never a waste to follow your dreams, even when no one seems to be listening.

JELLIES PURSE.
Children of the eighties, unite! Sun Jellies were my favorite summer shoes when I was a little girl, and now this purse brings back all of my plastic accessory memories.

SWIM SUIT.
If you only buy one swimsuit for the rest of your life, let it be The Side Stroke from Summersalt. It is supportive, comfortable, cute, and feels great. I’m not sure anyone loves being in a swimsuit, but this one makes it feel as good as possible to parade around poolside.

FREEDOM MOSES SANDALS.
I wear my Freedom Moses sandals every day. At home. At the pool. To run groceries. They are comfortable, but not squishy or sponge-like. They have structure and support, but are still plastic which makes them easy to wear, easy to clean, and easy to love.

PATRIOTIC BUNTING.
Whether kicking off summer with Memorial Day, celebrating July Fourth, or wrapping up the season on Labor Day, bunting just feels like summer to me. I like the lightweight nature of this bunting and the size is perfect for hanging above a door, on a mirror, or across the front of a bar cart.

I love when you share favorite things! These are all so cute/great. I already took your advice and purchased the Summersalt suit. I second the Lands End towels and the Supergoop. Our towels have held up for many years. Do you have a favorite flavor of popsicle to make?

Not afraid to cook in a skirt!

Finally feeling the desire to create again after stepping away for several weeks reminds me that when we feel empty, pushing through does not serve us long term.

When we feel empty, we need to listen and do whatever it takes to replenish our reserves so that we can return to our work with our whole heart.

Today I returned to the work by filming a new idea, listening to the creative nudges and seeing where they lead. Maybe it will work. Maybe it won’t. But either way I feel alive and present and grateful.

Fussy recipes are the kind where you have to make things (salad dressing, croutons, blanched vegetables, boiled eggs) before you begin making the actual dish. It can be a real buzz kill.

But, fussy recipes can also be a place to learn new skills, try adventurous ingredients, and master technique.

All the fussy details from Week Four, including the lessons I learned, are on the blog!
